Curriculum Vitae

1973 Born in Frankfurt/Main
1993 Finished school with an additional training as certified "Mathematisch-Technischer Assistent" (something like a certified software developer) at the Georg-Kerschensteiner-School, Bad Homburg.
1994-1999 Studies in Computer Science (and protestantic Theology) at the Darmstadt University of Technology
Finished with the Diploma Thesis: TUKAN -- Entwicklung einer kooperativen Software-Konfigurations-Umgebung
that was awarded with the FhG IPSI Best Diploma Thesis of the Year Award (in 1999).
1995-1999 Research Student at the CONCERT division of Fraunhofer IPSI in Darmstadt.
Focus: Participation in the development of the synchronous groupware platform COAST.
1998-2002 Participation in the DFG-sponsored PhD program "Infrastructures for Electronic Commerce" at the Technical University of Darmstadt in cooperation with the CONCERT division of Fraunhofer IPSI in Darmstadt.
Focus:
  • Dynamic group formation in the context of software engineering (TUKAN).
  • Fostering cooperation between customers in eCommerce applications (GAMA-Mall).
Conducted several seminars at the TU Darmstadt.
since March 2002 Member of the scientific staff at the Distributed Systems Division af the FernUniversität in Hagen
July 2005 Received a doctorate degree (Dr. rer. nat.) from the FernUniversität in Hagen for the thesis entitled "A Pattern Approach to End-User Centered Groupware Development"
July 2007 Published the book "Patterns for Computer-Mediated Interaction"



Research

My research interests lie in the following areas:
  • CSCW and CSCL,
  • distributed systems,
  • Software Engineering and Agile Methods,
  • Design Patterns, and
  • Cooperative Games.
My PhD Thesis focuses on Design Patterns for group formation and maintenance.

I am (or have been) responsible for the technical development in following research projects at PI VI:
  • FUB - A tool for supporting distributed collaborative exercises.
  • CURE - The new collaborative Learning Platform at the Distance University of Hagen.
  • MAPPER - An EU project focusing on "Model-based Adaptive Product and Process Engineering"
